The Alaska Humisoil is hard to come by in the Philippines, though we do use a small amount. As an alternative I have been experimenting with specially treated vermicompost as the BioTea starter. Vermicompost is made using red worms to break down the organic matter and add all the microbial life.
However, we are now beginning to use an indigenous type of grub to quickly transform organic matter into the starter for the BioTea. They are almost 4" long and about 1" in diameter -- and very hungry! Testing the BioTea made with grup compost shows that we are getting very good microbial results.

Hullo John,
ReplyDeleteYour UTube videos and site are a revelation to Me.
It seems so obvious, in hindsight. The grubs look amazing. Can you tell us a bit more about them, the species, etc, and if they can survive outside the Phillipines? I would imagine they would have to be kept in a warm artificial environment. but it might work, in a polytunnel. Your comments on this?
